THE MAFIA BOSS’S FIANCÉE CALLED ME A “USELESS LITTLE MAID”—THEN I SAVED HIS LIFE BY MOVING HIS CHAIR.
The voice came through the transmitter again.
“Vanessa… say nothing.”

Thirty people went completely still. Luca slowly turned toward his fiancée. “Who is that?” Vanessa’s lips parted, but no answer came.
“I—I don’t know.” The transmitter clicked. Silence. Luca looked at his head of security. “Find whoever is receiving the signal.”
Two guards immediately disappeared through the dining-room doors.
Vanessa grabbed Luca’s sleeve. “Please, let me explain.” He pulled his arm free.
“You have thirty seconds.” Her eyes darted around the table before settling on me.
“I never meant for anyone to get hurt.” “That still doesn’t answer my question.”
“I was ordered to put the device beneath your chair. I was only supposed to listen.” “Ordered by whom?”
Vanessa hesitated. Then she pointed at me. “Her.” My heart stopped. “Me?” “She approached me three weeks ago,” Vanessa whispered.
Luca’s face hardened. “Who approached you?” Vanessa swallowed. “Grace Parker.”
A wave of shocked whispers swept through the room. I stared at her in disbelief. “That’s a lie.”

Vanessa gave me a cold smile. “You really think you’re just an innocent housekeeper? You weren’t hired by coincidence.”
Luca turned toward me. “Grace?” I opened my mouth, but before I could defend myself, the head of security returned.
In his hand was a small black receiver. “We found this in the study.” He placed it on the table. Luca pressed the playback button.
My voice suddenly filled the room. “Vanessa, when Luca takes his seat, everything will be ready.”
Several guests gasped. I instinctively stepped backward. “That isn’t my voice.” But the recording continued.
“Once he hears what we discussed, he’ll trust me.” Luca stared at me. For the first time that evening, I felt genuine fear.
Not because of Vanessa. Because the recording sounded frighteningly real. Then something caught my attention.
The voice had paused slightly before saying Vanessa’s name. I never did that. I had spent eight months working inside this mansion.
Eight months cleaning rooms, serving dinners, and quietly listening to conversations everyone assumed I couldn’t hear.
And suddenly, I knew whose voice it was. “Mr. Moretti,” I whispered. “Reverse the recording.” The head of security looked at me.

Luca nodded. The audio was reversed. Then they slowed it down.
At first, there was only distorted noise. Then a second voice emerged beneath it. A man’s voice.
One sentence became unmistakably clear: “Use her voice. She’ll take the blame.”
The room fell silent. Luca slowly turned toward Vanessa. “You told me you didn’t know who gave you the device.”
“I don’t!” she cried. At that exact moment, the dining-room doors swung open.
A man in an immaculate black suit stepped inside. Luca’s oldest business associate.
Marco Bellini. Vanessa’s father. He smiled calmly. “You always were harder to deceive than I expected, Luca.”
Luca reached beneath his jacket. Marco immediately raised his hands. “I never intended to kill you,” he said. “I wanted something much more valuable.”
He looked around the room. “Your empire.” Then his eyes settled on Vanessa.

“You were supposed to marry Luca, gain access to the company, and convince him to sign everything over.”
Vanessa burst into tears. “I didn’t know you planned to kill him.” Marco’s expression turned cold.
“You knew enough.” Security moved before he could say another word.
Within seconds, Marco was restrained. Vanessa collapsed into a chair, sobbing. Luca turned toward me.
“Grace.”I stood frozen. “Why did you really save me tonight?”
I reached into my apron and pulled out a folded photograph. It showed two men standing together twenty years earlier.
My father. And Luca’s father. “My father worked for your family,” I said quietly.
“Then he disappeared.” Luca took the photograph. On the back, written in faded ink, were seven words:
“If anything happens to me, protect Luca.” He stared at the message for several seconds before handing the photograph back.

“You’re not a housekeeper anymore, Grace.” I frowned. “Then what am I?”
His eyes shifted toward the restrained Bellinis. “My witness.” He paused. “And perhaps the only person in this house I can trust.”
The engagement dinner never became a wedding.
Instead, it exposed a conspiracy that had been growing inside Luca’s own family.
But the next morning, Luca showed me something that made everything I believed about my past collapse. It was another photograph.
My father was standing beside Luca’s mother. They were both smiling. And in their arms was a newborn baby.
The baby had Luca’s unmistakable eyes. But beneath the photograph was a handwritten name: Grace Parker.
